Cindy V. Lopez, is the Superintendent at the Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) in Yonkers,
She was was born in Yonkers, New York, the second child of immigrants from Latin America.
Cindy Lopez lived in Brazil for 17 years, and while there attended the Federal University of Minas Gerais.
State Education Department has repeatedly shown that showed CSEE students once again outperformed students in the Yonkers Public Schools (YPS) on the ELA and math exams in grades three through eight.
Superintendent Cindy Lopez’s student’s test scores include an impressive 92.4 percent of CSEE eighth-graders –meeting or exceeding the standard on the Algebra I regents.
She received her Master of Science Degree in School Building Leadership and School District Leadership from Mercy College.
She also holds a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science.
And she has received many academic awards, and is a McNair Scholar with a published paper.
Other results show 80 percent of CSEE students in grades three, four and seven meeting the state standard or passing the ELA exam.
Cindy Lopez’s CSEE students are passing the state exams at higher rates than the average of all students in Westchester County, students in other charter schools in New York State, and students in New York State.
In the seventh-grade ELA exam, 80 percent of CSEE students met the standard, compared to 24 percent of YPS students, a difference of 56 percentage points.
On the seventh-grade math exam, 76 percent of CSEE students passed, compared to 31 percent in YPS, a difference of 45 percentage points.
And on the eighth-grade algebra exam mentioned above, 92 percent of CSEE students passed, compared to 24 percent of YPS students, a difference of 66 percentage points.
In all 12 testing categories, ranging from grades three to eight, CSEE students outperformed their peers in YPS by an average of 40 percentage points.
CSEE also celebrated the inaugural freshman class of the CSEE high school as they walked through the doors of their new school
CSEE has a waiting list of more than 750 Yonkers families and students are chosen by lottery.
Under Superintendent Cindy Lopez’s leadership, CSEE has repeatedly been designated By the New York State Education Department, which has ranked it number 11 out of 295 Charter schools in the state..
Having two children of her own Cindy Lopez has a great deal of respect for parents and students, with the understanding that we can only achieve a child’s success in education if the school and home work together.
Cindy Lopez currently resides in Yonkers with her husband, Paul Lopez, and their daughter, Kristina, who is currently working for the 4th Precinct of the Yonkers Police Department.
Their son, Paul Lopez Jr., a United States Marine Corp veteran, continued in his mother’s footsteps, and is currently a Social Studies teacher at CSEE.
